At Furnace Brook we are strong believers in the value of membership.
What Does Membership Look Like?
Membership is not the same as salvation: you can be saved without being a member, so non-members are not second class citizens in our church.
Membership does send a signal about priorities and membership makes members more accountable to the church and the church more accountable to its members.
As Wesleyans we are called on to reaffirm our membership on an annual basis.
Join us! If you are interested in membership (or even just curious about what is required or what it might mean for you) fill out the electronic form below.
Summary of the Articles of Religion
We believe in God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ the Son suffered in our place on the cross, that He died but rose again, that He now sits at the Father's right hand until He returns to judge every person at the last day. We believe in the Holy Scriptures as the inspired and inerrant Word of God. We believe that by the grace of God every person has the ability and responsibility to choose between right and wrong, and that those who repent of their sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ are justified by faith. We believe that God not only counts the believer as righteous, but that He makes such persons righteous, freeing them from sin's dominion at conversion, purifying their hearts by faith, perfecting them in love at entire sanctification, and providing for their growth in grace at every stage of spiritual life, enabling them through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit to live victorious lives.
New Here? Your first time visiting us at Furnace Brook you can expect to be warmly greeted and made comfortable, but you will not be put on the spot or required to participate in anything.
We provide an online bulletin that you can log into at furnacebrook.org which gives you the order of service. The images projected on the front wall will help you participate in the service, including the words to the songs we sing. Dress
Most people dress comfortably as they would for any other public event, though some make a special effort to dress nicely, and that's alright too.
Worship
Our worship at Furnace Brook is conventional with a mix of singing, Bible reading, preaching and prayer. The music that we use to worship is a mixture of contemporary choruses and old hymns with (mostly) keyboard accompaniment.
Service Length
The service starts promptly at 9:00 and typically goes for a little more than an hour. Following the service we have coffee and occasional refreshments for a relaxed time of fellowship.
Children
Your children will be welcome to stay with you for the entire service (and we mean that), or you will have the option of using the staffed nursery for the care of children from newborn through 3 years old.
Before the sermon begins children from 4 years old and up will have the option of going to Children's Church, a service designed to meet their spiritual needs.
Participation in Children's Church is purely voluntary. On the first Sunday of every month we celebrate communion and the children participate in the service with us.
Parking
You are welcome to park anywhere on the premises, at the historical society further down on Route 7 and also at the Lothrop School.
